AU 1848 Daily Tasks 11/1/2013   • Working on the adilas security flyer text. Created a new flyer with security stuff and posted in online.
• Working on a basic graphic to help explain the teacher/student interface. All the buttons are listed out and labeled. Posted the file online.
• Went to Brigham City to meet with the head lady from a school district. Took her the new security flyer, did some light consulting, and promised her a quote. The teacher we have been working with was there and so were her supervisors. Good meeting. As a note, if all works out well, they, the school district, may be interested in other pieces that adilas has to offer. It sounded as if they have a large software package that isn’t working as well as they had hoped. 60 miles.
• Phone calls, tech support and emails.
• Went in to town to work with the interns. Two of them were there. We spent the first 1.5 hours brainstorming on flow and database options. We ended up deciding to go in a different direction. The new direction is more flexible, less rigid, and simpler. We took off the three deep groups, categories, and types and just added three open text fields for the categorizing pieces. Good step. Spent the rest of the time making changes and coding the add page. 30 miles.
• Making a quote for a school district. Emails and recording notes in my notebook.

AU 1875 Daily Ideas 11/2/2013   -For training and education… maybe a pilot program or small selected groups to try different things.
-Harness talents where you see or find them.
-Thought from Stake Conference… maybe try doing demos with current adilas users present. This works in sharing the gospel – having a member present. This is kind of a natural diversity or village type approach.
-Tons of fun notes in my mini notebook for 11/2/13.
-“Effort & consistency” are huge keys. Quote by our Stake President.
-On the help files – We need to have a video or YouTube training section. Basically, start connecting help files to video files. Help spread the love. Maybe change the help link to “help/video” or something like that. Focus on the main sections first.
-When searching videos for the help files, maybe use actual id’s or use text searches such as: “help=121” or “help=121,”. The second example has a comma at the end to help with a list of different pages.
-Link general videos to sub homepages first. Then, when ready, start linking out to other pages that are more specific or further away from the hub or sub homepages.
-We need to get the adilas world section and pages up online. That will really help out our users.

AU 1850 Daily Tasks 11/4/2013   • Small database fix for a consultant. One of their clients had a duplicate record for payees to departments.
• On the phone with Steve talking about upcoming projects, sales, marketing, training, etc. We talked about funding, interns, reps, and current progress reports. Good stuff.
• Emails and tech support.
• More emails, phone calls, and tech support. Wells Fargo bank stuff and answering questions about time clocks and payroll.
• Went in to BATC for an intern ColdFusion class. We spent the whole day dealing with validation and using and incorporating custom tags to help with validation. Somewhat of a sidestep but hopefully well worth it. Only two of the interns were there. After class I helped one of the interns with using the validation on the media/content action page. He was having fun. Wrote emails back and forth with a client about sub classifications on invoice classifications. 30 miles.
• Stopped by in Smithfield to drop off the adilas laptop and pick-up a couple of videos from my brother.
• Reviewing GoToMeeting videos. The picture was fine but the audio wasn’t quite as nice. Oh well, life goes on.

AU 1851 Daily Tasks 11/5/2013   • Posting files online for the interns. Emails and tech support.
• Went in to town to teach the adilas interns. We worked on custom tags, validation and going through incoming page params one at a time. One intern was able to lead the class quote a bit today. Good stuff. 30 miles.
• Recording notes in my notebook.
• Emails and light tech support.

AU 1852 Daily Tasks 11/6/2013   • Emails and tech support. Made a couple phone calls and left messages.
• My sister came over. We talked about parameters and requirements for interns and contract labor persons. Good discussion. We then went through a big stack of expense/receipts and bills. She entered them into the system and I helped from the sidelines. She is getting very fast.
• Went in to BATC to help with the intern ColdFusion class. Two interns were there. One of the interns taught us a small on SEO or search engine optimization and what the search engines look for in a website. We then worked on the media/content project. We added some java script to help with some local string manipulation stuff. More work on the main action page for the media/content pieces. At the end of class, we had a good 45 minute discussion about how adilas is offering people “a virtual open ticket to ride” and then we allow people to do or be what they want to do or be. Pretty cool! 30 miles.
• New logo and colors for a client. Got the graphic from my brother.

AU 1876 Daily Ideas 11/6/2013   -Quote by one of the adilas interns and code writers, “You guys are offering an open ticket to ride.”
-Outline the requirements for getting paid. This deals with interns, data entry, and other contract labor projects. Idea came from my sister.

AU 1853 Daily Tasks 11/7/2013   • Emails and phone calls.
• Research on the content server and uploading multiple files to the server.
• Went in to town for a 3D simulation demo of a program for assembly lines and robots. I was trying to get ideas on how to show data assembly and real-time cause and effect relationships. Tons of ideas. See more notes later on for details. 30 miles.
• Went to BATC to help the interns. We had 4 interns in class today. We talked about the 3D simulation demo and how we could do some of that kind of stuff inside of adilas. Things like building invoice, tying invoice payments to deposits, and recording accounts receivable’s back to customers. Good discussion. One of the interns shared a small lesson on regular expressions and how to use them. We then spent most of the rest of the day planning out page flow and how to optimize the traffic to and from the content server. Great brainstorming session. See the loose page dated 11/7/13 for notes, sketch, and flow chart. As a random side note, 3D simulations and modern day modeling are very similar to old school flow charts and diagrams. The main difference is feel, depth, richness, and animation of the process. Both show processes. One verbally and visually explains and the other is primarily a visual tool.
• Spent some time talking with interns on individual levels. Listened to one of their ideas about a smart grid or custom component of sorts. Talked with the other intern about his role and where we are going. Spent some time copying ideas from the whiteboard brainstorming session on to loose paper and organizing some of the thoughts.

AU 1877 Daily Ideas 11/7/2013   -Notes from the 3D simulation demo using visual components.
-Reference an object and then bring it in to your world.
-They used in-line parameters to control the objects. These params acted like virtual settings.
-One of the fun things with the simulation demo was the point and click interface to show what was happening as you made changes. Adilas could use this on our permissions and corp-wide settings.
-Once they were in the 3D world, they could copy and paste both functionality and objects inside the world.
-Inside the 3D world, the user could move any item at will. This deals with 3D space or not being locked in to a 2D space.
-Inside the software, they, the users, could drag to create the connections. I could see virtual flex grid relationships by created by drag and drop options in the future.
-They used feeders to virtually feed product into the simulation.
-More notes from the 3D simulation demo (continued)
-Once an object was on the stage or screen, the user could virtually “teach” the object what to do. Instead of defining the process step-by-step or stage-by-stage, the user could drag and drop, push and pull, and then the object would mimic or copy the sequence. I could see some cross-over functionality there big time for adilas.
-Many of the objects had built-in limits.
-Use simulation to help solve problems before you do anything for real. This was also used to produce potential through output analysis.
-They used Adobe PDF to hold the 3D animations for sharing with other people. They also used built-in options inside of Adobe Acrobat to switch between outlines vs. real colored graphics. I personally liked the outline view best. Very simple.
-One of the analogies that they used was – help the people virtually get their driver’s license before they really hit the real world.
-I would love to show tons of adilas scenarios on how things flow in a real-time, cause and effect, 3D, scenario. It would also be cool for what if’s or if I did do this, what would it do?

AU 3648 Brainstorming: Uploads to Media/Content 11/7/2013   Brainstorming on page flow for physically uploading a file from adilas to the adilas content server:
(Please see sketches & flow on scan in photo gallery)
Normal Flow:
Cluster Model:
- Different clients connected to a data server
- Normal high speed data path or highway
- Different data servers
- Bigger more robust content server
- Outbound messenger called a web service going from the content server back to the data server
- Files will be stored here on the content server
- In bound file submission or uploading a physical file to the content server
Flow with Content & Web services:
- Clients & users

Page flow for all three buttons:
- Step 1 in adilas (with this option):

- Step 2 in adilas
o Form
o ID
o File
o Name
o Desc
- Step 3 in adilas
o Action page
o Insert into database
- Step 4 in adilas
o View results

- Step 2 in adilas
o Message & button
- Step 3 on content server
o Form
o ID
o File
o Name
o Desc
- Step 4 on content server
o Upload the file
- Step 5 send the runner
o Web service and show completion
- Stop:
o Dead end – close when done

For both local and remote file reference, everything stays in adilas and goes full circle. On the physical upload, open a new browser window and go until complete. The web services will tell the data server once complete.

AU 1854 Daily Tasks 11/8/2013   • Emails and tech support stuff.
• Made an adilas certificate of completion for a guy who attended the October training session. He needed it for some continuing professional education (CPE) credits.
• Prep for the ColdFusion class. Tried a few ideas for submitting a form with specific size dimensions. Just playing.
• Went in to Bridgerland for the intern class. We had a great lesson by one of the interns on disruptive innovation vs. sustaining innovation. He got some of his ideas from a book by Clayton Christensen. Basically, a disruptive innovation is something new that alters or changes the traditional scope or flow. Because it is so different, it changes the market. Once it changes the market, other people and/or companies follow and try to do the same thing. Often the first one in (the original) gets setup as the leader. On the other hand, sustaining innovation takes an existing idea or product and improves it. This changes things over time and build on existing products and services vs. altering markets and changing or disrupting flow. Anyway, a great presentation and discussion. After that we worked on the flow for adding and uploading media and content. I gave them a flow chart of what we were trying to do and then we started into it. We ended up running into an issue that dealt with making and pulling values out of a list. It was kind of off topic but a good exercise. The group dynamics were much better today. 30 miles.
• Spent some one on one time with an intern looking over his sortable columns and sortable table stuff. It was an interesting use of java script. We got the intern paid up and then I worked with another intern for a bit. We created him an adilas account and helped him create a couple of invoices for billing us for his time.

AU 1855 Daily Tasks 11/9/2013   • Writing and recording notes from yesterday. Also did some brainstorming on simple learning and then applying those concepts. The applying part is so important.
• Went in to get my notebook from my sister. I took her some phone numbers and put her on assignment to call a couple young ladies and then go teach them some adilas stuff. It will be her first solo teaching trip. I also picked up 19 new videos from my brother. Good stuff! 20 miles.
• File management and uploading videos to YouTube.

AU 1879 Daily Ideas 11/9/2013   -Have my sister start helping with light training sessions. Start on operations and then eventually get to the accounting side. Keep it really simple. Think about being baptized, you don’t have to know everything before you get baptized. At that point, the journey is just barely beginning. The important part is learning, doing, and applying, and then sharing.
-Maybe have my sister help with a weekly training session or watch the existing training sessions and then pull out highlights or more laser focused pieces.
-On learning and then applying – what if you were learning about inventory? It might be good to go into the play sites and pick 4-5 companies and try to add 5-10 items per company. Maybe a couple of new ones and a couple of existing items. Teach them how to look-up what the company has and then how to add to that. Either in new items or adding to the existing quantities.

We made some more database choices by adding a new sub table and created some new reference id numbers for the media/content project. We worked on the physical, upload a file page inside of our project. 30 miles.
• Cleaning up and chatting with the interns.
• Went out to Smithfield to work with my sister and brother. Chatted with my sister about internal adilas teams and how we will be developing those teams to a fuller extent. She would like to be a part of those teams. I got nine new video files from my brother. I also gave him all of the files from the October Denver training session. We chatted lightly about direction and goals.
• File management and uploading videos to YouTube.
• Working on the adilas GPS (global positioning system) graphic. Working on the visuals for adilas world building concepts.

AU 1858 Daily Tasks 11/13/2013   • Updating help files for the teacher/student interface.
• Went over to Brigham City to do some training for the school district. My sister and I went over together. Once we got there, we setup a projector for the smart board and got ready. We had 15 or so people in the class. It included teachers and administrators. A good mix. The training went for about 1.5 hours and was pretty light. It was mostly just dealing with teacher/student functions. After the main class, my sister and I spent another hour and a half with the school secretary going over more admin and maintenance pieces. My sister did most of the training for the secretary. Good stuff. We chatted about things and options the whole way home. 60 miles.
• Went in to Bridgerland to work with the interns. I taught a small class on building and stacking basic pieces together. I used my hacky sack to show the guys some basic moves and then how you could put basic moves into combination. Later in the class we did some basic training on simple variables, lists, arrays, structures, and then mixing and blending those pieces. We also worked on setting up our first function or ColdFusion method.
• Emails and recording notes while the video was rendering.

AU 1880 Daily Ideas 11/13/2013   -Here is a gem from the training session with the teachers in Brigham City:
Easy on the “how”. Not so easy on the “what”.
This is a quote by one of the administrators from the school district. We were talking about delegating and what is the best way to do that. She also said that at first she would get a sick feeling in her stomach when she would delegate a task or something. After a while the sick feeling went away as she was able to let go. Sometimes the letting go is what is so scary. The other thing that she said was, use lots of communication to detail out the “what”, then go back and check on things.
-My notebook is becoming somewhat of a pain. It takes a lot of work and I’m feeling behind. On the other hand, it has also saved my bacon on countless occasions. Anyway, just recording a thought.
-It may be easier to go straight to digital (as far as my notebook)… but I don’t know if I want to do that. Either way, I need to get caught up and stay as caught up as possible. It kills me when I record it on scratch paper and then have to re-write it to put it into my real notebook. The problem is not the writing… the problem is being behind and so I don’t feel like I can record things in my real notebook as they happen. So I scribble on a piece of scratch paper and then get back to it when possible.

AU 1881 Daily Ideas 11/15/2013   -We may need a corp history section to see if people are flipping corp names and such. Steve and I got a request from a client to change a logo on a corporation. We went and looked and neither of us knew anything about the corporation that was being requested.
-As another corporation level to do list item – we need a link that would show us what users are assigned and what permissions they have per corp. Basically, who is playing in these different corporations. The information is there… we just need to get it.

AU 1882 Daily Ideas 11/18/2013   -“Set the table… the Lord will provide.” – Talking with my dad this morning on our walk. He was talking about a mutual friend that used to love the above saying. It shows great faith and good intentions. I’ve also heard it put this way… work as if everything depends on you, and pray as if everything depends on the Lord. It still takes work but it also takes a bunch of faith.

AU 1863 Daily Tasks 11/19/2013   • Emails, backing up files, and prep work.
• Working on eCommerce code. Added code to the web quotes and orders page to help with virtual logging in from a hyper-link or web link. Worked on the web invoice file to help with eCommerce and emailing links to customer invoices.
• An intern came over and we worked on the invoice page together. Good stuff and great session.
• Went in to Bridgerland to work with the interns. WE started out on the media homepage and shared code between what two of the interns had on their own code files. God back and forth action. My sister then did an hour long training session on using elements of time to track time on different projects. It was a good session and we covered some good ground. The interns and I then worked on the advanced search page for media content. We got a couple of concepts in and then an intern had to leave. The remaining intern and I worked on the rest of the form and all of the prep work to make sure we got everything. Lots of details. 30 miles.

AU 1864 Daily Tasks 11/20/2013   • Added flex grid output to the web quotes.
• Prep work on eCommerce. One of the interns came over and we looked at a sheet of paper with 20 different projects on it. We went over each project and chatted lightly about each one. We then went in to eCommerce stuff and started going over the submit page for eCommerce. We ended up on credit card stuff. We decided that he would work on a small sub project to chop the payment processing page into smaller functions or methods. We prepped some files and went over goals on what we are looking for. Great session.
• Another intern came over. He started working on the media/content project. He was focusing on the history page. I was working on submitting the eCommerce shopping cart and having it run payment stuff and then show the web invoice page. I got that done and launched the files. I was really glad to get that done.

AU 1865 Daily Tasks 11/21/2013   • Got an email from a client. They just added six new locations and needed some merchant settings applied to the new locations. That is exciting! That brings them up to 44 locations. That is awesome!
• Add a new logo for a client, my brother did the graphic.
• Reviewing an online eCommerce video that we put up on YouTube.
• Rereading code for eCommerce. Signing off on code. Working on a more generic customer sign on. The old way was pretty tightly tied to a valid shopping cart. The new way will be a little bit looser to allow both existing customers and new customer s to access backend options. Security will still be tight for customer actions, just the gathering of information will be relaxed slightly.
• Went in to Bridgerland to work with the interns. I did a small eCommerce demo showing actual invoice creation and payment stuff. That is a new feature. My sister then did a demo on the flex grid and how to use it. We spent an hour and 3 interns had a blast playing with different pieces of the puzzle. Great session. After that, we worked on the advanced search page for the media/content application. Another lady helping with some projects came by and we showed her our progress. 30 miles.
• Talking with this lady about the “dream it up” graphic. That little graphic says a lot about what we are trying to do. We also talked about a possible project that she would like to do for her current boss and how they train substitute teachers. We then talked quite a bit about custom interfaces and how the word “interface” also or almost deals with the word “space” or “work space” or “flow”. That was a really fun conversation. She gave me a disk of files and I got her paid up.
• Recording notes on time and space and how interface plays into the space part of the puzzle. Cleaning up computer stuff and heading home.
• Went to Smithfield to work with my sister and brother. I got 11 new videos from my brother and we talked about getting him a new laptop so that he could work from home. I then worked with my sister on what we wanted from the adilas user guide. We talked about using her own words, Steve’s stuff, and my help files to come up with a rough outline for the user guide.
• Uploading new video clips to YouTube. Light file management and pushing up the new files.

AU 1883 Daily Ideas 11/21/2013   -Thought about videos on adilas university… I thought that it might be fun to get some fun screen shots and show them as part of the video review. I was hoping that it would entice the users to want to watch and view the video clips. For example: video such & such (sketch on notebook page, see scans for 11/21/13)
-On the corp-wide settings. Maybe put some basic info to help the people (our users) know that there are some other admin settings like: custom homepages, custom interface options, and tons of eCommerce settings that are available. This list may also include email invoice settings, special “hooks” to 3rd party products, etc.
-On eCommerce… I want to make sure that a user (customer) can login even if no cart options are set. Basically, make the eCommerce backend be independent of the shopping cart and ability to show web inventory and items.
-On eCommerce… we need a setting to control the default customer type for adding a new customer to the database. Currently the new customer gets to select what type they are. That could be a possible problem for some industries.
-Time and space are two huge keys. Lately we have been focusing a lot on time and tracking objects and data over time. The other piece is “space” or organizing flow. In some ways, the word “interface” could be used as a substitute for “space”. The word space doesn’t have to be as big as what we think of space with planets, starts, systems, etc. It could be as small as your desk, your car, your home, your business, your interface. Space is a way to organize what you store or work with. This could be memories, letters, pictures, files, business data, transactions, etc. Things happen over time – we need to track that. As they happen we need to account for that or store that. How and where we store things, comes back to interface or “my virtual space”. I think it is super fun to think about how both time and space or space and time work and play together. This is virtual world building on a whole new level.

AU 1866 Daily Tasks 11/22/2013   • An intern came over and we started working. He is working on validation and formatting function for credit card data (prep for API stuff). I did a new logo for a hair salon (play site). Light tech support and working with the intern on his project.
• Added a new logo for a client.
• Another intern came over and is working on the media/content project. I’m working on allowing customer to login through adilas eCommerce and look up history of quotes and invoices. Prep on adding some new fields to the database for new eCommerce settings. The new settings are for skipping the shipping, a default customer type when adding a new web customer, show/hide option for wholesale prices, and web email fields for sending invoices and sales receipts.

o Make – brand, group, main type, category, etc.
o Model – “ “ similar to make – just a level down
o Inventory type – dynamic naming at high levels
o Sub inventory type – dynamic naming at high levels – sub of the inventory types
-Quote from a guy at church. Not sure where he got it from… “The faintest line on paper is sometimes worth more than the brightest memory.” Interesting concept.
-On elements of time… I’d like the sub pools and sub assignments to have all of the functionality of the sub dates and times with the ability to be tied to other pool or assignment pieces. Be able to track different rates, be able to hold hands with multiple pieces at once. Be able to look backwards and have the system tell us what is reserved, committed, scheduled and requested. This needs to be able to do reservations, dispatch, and be tied to payroll and different rates for job costing.
-Stock/units area big player in the system… I wonder what would happen if we mixed stock/units with the flexibility of elements of time. Those two together could be very powerful. The other flexible piece is the flex grid. Imaging what could be possible if you had all three pieces working in conjunction. You have 100+ fields on stock/units. They already have 4 sub sections, may be tied to invoices, can handle internal invoices, outside repairs, adjustments, photos, etc. You then take elements of time that has crazy flexibility, availability to be tied to a calendar and tons of other bolt-on subs. Then add a dash of flex grid to add a custom relationship and/or custom fields to the mix and you could really have some power. Those pieces are some of our biggest possible players by themselves. I can’t even imagine the possibilities if you could easily mix them and blend them and make them play well together. Just brainstorming and dreaming a bit.
-Build on what you have! Great advice!

AU 1885 Daily Ideas 11/27/2013   -One of the most beneficial things that we could do for adilas is allow our users the ability to save and name their settings. There are tons of awesome reports that already exist. Sometimes they aren’t used to their potential because users have to search and filter to get to their results. If we could allow a user to filter and build once, and then use many, that would be really cool. In a small way, saving and naming report settings is a small stab at allowing a user to control their space or work space. Code once, use many, organize as needed, or even assign to others. That would be cool!
-We used to have a feature called the mend and repair section. That was a mini version of what we were hoping to do with the ability to save settings, pick and choose what you want to see, and apply filters or search criteria. We could name it, assign it, and sort it. It was pretty cool. Maybe we need to do that again and expand from just stock/units to all main groups inside of adilas.

AU 1872 Daily Tasks 11/29/2013   • One of the interns and my sister came over to work on the adilas user guide. We started out brainstorming at the table. I had the intern talk about disruptive innovation vs. sustaining innovation. We then talked about byproducts that adilas creates. We talked about selling services and the need for adilas world (virtually selling people and their skills). We then printed out some graphics of the interactive map, the adilas GPS core, and the cups and plate analogy. We also printed out outlines for the adilas user guide – steps to success. We went over 30+ topics and had light brainstorming on core concepts and pieces. The list was taken from section 4 of the user guide. Great session and good progress.
• Emails.
• Went over to my brother’s house. He gave me 43 new videos. He has been working really hard lately. Great stuff. I now have almost all of the October adilas training cut and edited. That is awesome! 30 miles.
• Spot checking and uploading new videos to YouTube.

Adilas is what we call a “business platform”. What that means is there are tons of tools, functions, permissions, settings, and processes to help you run your business. This guide or manual will take you on a step by step journey in exploring and explaining some of the functions and tools that are available to you and your company. Not every tool or function will be used and that’s ok. We want you to match the right tools with the right job. Some of the goals in providing this manual are helping you learn the system, apply the concepts in your own specific manner, helps you track all your operations and accounting data, and help make you even more successful than you currently are! AU 1887 Daily Ideas 11/30/2013   -On the plates and cups analogy… I’d like to put multiple plates and cups on one page. That way I could draw relationships between them on the screen. This would allow us to show more advanced relationships using the same model.
-On the plates and cups analogy… I would like to show each of the 12 main players and which ones they end up getting and what they look like based on the cup analogy. We are going to need some buckets!
