Shop 2892 Adilas Time 8/1/2017   On the morning GoToMeeting session with Steve. We started out and did some JavaScript tweaks for a report that Steve was working on. He needed to flip some hidden values when a certain button was clicked. We then worked with Wayne Andersen on a digital export and import for customer invoices. We looked over some of his code and helped him get things prepped and ready. I then did some basic to do list stuff and then started back on the JavaScript for the advanced add to cart and the in-line dollars off discount stuff. This is part of the sales tax expansion project.

Shop 2893 Adilas Time 8/2/2017   On the morning GoToMeeting session with Steve. Most of the day was a work session on the sales tax expansion project and in-line dollars off discounts. Still working on the advanced add to cart page and all of the JavaScript to make everything work. Towards the end of the session, I helped Wayne run our first invoice data migration project for a client. Everything went really smooth and well. Good stuff.

Shop 2894 Adilas Time 8/3/2017   On the morning GoToMeeting session with Steve. We started out and talked about education and training and how that is a whole other adventure. We also talked about how some people want to be in an actual classroom and have a teacher/instructor present. We were dreaming of a time when we could help go around and teach small classes. Both Steve and I were even talking about different classes that we would like to take. Basically sharpening your sword and being part of continual education.

After that, we did a small session on elements of time and using code to figure out dates and number of days for a registration interface. Fun stuff with tons of potential. We then broke into a work session. I had to fill out a multiple page questionnaire about the Adilas Shop and what we did. Steve was working on the campground reservation page and interface for a client out of the Royal Gorge area in Colorado.

The last part of the session was used to work more on core projects. I went back and worked on the sales tax expansion project and the advanced add to cart page. I'm in a section where we need to reverse the logic and do returns, refunds, and backing into the normal discount calculations. Pretty deep.

Shop 2719 Alan Time 8/3/2017   Alan checked in to the GoToMeeting session and we chatted for a bit. We went over some of the new changes and did a rough catch up session on things. We then talked about some wage increases for Alan. We had planned to talk about that as of April of this year and setup August 1st as a time to talk. Alan will be going to $35/hour for internal adilas projects. That is awesome. We also looked into the bank and checked out a check from the shop account that had insufficient funds and made a plan there. I was unaware of that check until Alan let me know. I will go in and add the fees and re-issue the check.

Shop 2903 Adilas Time 8/14/2017   On the morning GoToMeeting with Steve. We got caught up on some of the happenings over the last week or so. We then went through and fixed a couple of outstanding bugs and things that needed some loving. We ran some stuff for Wayne to wrap up a data import project. We helped out Eric with a customer queue question. Other than that, we fixed a few things and worked on emails and such.

Shop 2878 Russell Moore 8/14/2017   Zoom session with Russell. We were reviewing the parent attribute project that Russell has been working on. We spent some time going over how to search parent attributes and parent tags. This is a series of sub queries with cascading filters. We also spent some time going over Russell's budget and estimate tools for building quotes and such. Lots of talk about internal funding options. Russell was proposing a 10% commission back to Adilas for all custom code projects. He was also proposing that I get paid for work done on projects. Think of a train analogy or model, and who is selling and setting up shop based off of the businesses that the train generates (commissions and percentages back to adilas).

Shop 2906 Adilas Time 8/17/2017   On the morning GoToMeeting session with Steve. We were talking about progression and where things are going. In order to keep progressing... we need to keep focusing on keeping data, logic, and display in separate containers. That way we could mix and blend them as needed. We were talking about the word "fracture" and how we keep seeing things fracture and spread. It is amazing to see how deep some of the fractures go and how everything keeps breaking into subs.

adilas - all data is live and searchable

- Database - What does that include? Table design, schema, the map, layout, data structure, relationships, organization, data types, queries, storage containers, options, settings, permissions, standard usage, custom needs.

- Logic - What does that include? Objects, decisions, flow charts, conditions, cases, and tons of different options based off of data or flow. The logic is the binder between the data and the display. Without the logic, the data wouldn't mean anything and the display wouldn't know how to look or what to do (function). The logic needs to be a blend of static, dynamic, and mixed values based on where it lives and what it does. I think it would be a big mistake to force everything into a perfect box... yes, that might help in places, but it would also create all kinds of random things as well as things that just did and/or don't fit. We need to be flexible on all fronts. We will end up needing standard settings, custom settings, logic switches, toggles, choices, and ports that allow for custom everything (black box stuff).

- Display - What does that include? The display is what is seen and/or presented. It both guides the user on the inputs made and also requests and/or makes options available to the users. This is the user level. Displays need to be flexible yet consistent. Displays may be extended into interfaces. Interfaces show options, navigation, results, searches, adds, edits, deletes, updates, details, groups, etc. This could go on and on and has multiple faces and personalities. The display and/or interface goes from the surface clear down to the tiniest nut and bolt. This is how we get data in and out of the database based on the logic that is presented.

- The Mix - You have to have all three pieces. If you are missing the container (data and database), the rules (logic), or what it looks like (display/interface), you don't have much. If you could mix and blend to get all three in a way that is powerful, pretty, and easy... then you have something.

After Steve and I talked, I spent the rest of the session working with Bryan and going over a new 3rd party API socket. We did a lot of testing and restructured the output and info. We also had Eric chime in and we chatted about consistency and coordinating multiple developers on a single project. We have a couple of guys that are lightly stepping on some toes. Nothing intentional, just clients asking for mixed projects between multiple parties. No one knows who is doing what or what dependencies exist.

Shop 2723 general 8/17/2017   Emails and recording notes on data, logic, and display topics from earlier. We have to keep mixing and blending as needed. If you lose that mixing component, you have really lost something. You need it all in order to make the whole thing work. You need both standard pieces and the ability to allow for custom in all of those areas, if you have that, you can make magic.

Shop 2914 Adilas Time 8/21/2017   On the morning GoToMeeting with Steve. We were looking into some sub inventory bugs and how to help prevent any cross-corp contamination of the data. We are having users with multiple tabs and multiple windows that are flipping between the corps. We just went in and added some validation to help make sure that all of the data comes from the same place.

Part way through the session, Wayne jumped on and we went over his newest data migration project for PO's between corporations. We also did a small training session on the flex grid and how that all works. Good session and Wayne picked things up really quickly. I can tell that he is quite sharp. That is exciting.

Steve and I finished up our tweaks and changes and pushed up new files. We did some testing and also talked about how browsers and sessions worked between multiple tabs, multiple windows, and even multiple browsers. We stopped in time to go out and check out the solar eclipse that is happening today. Good session.

Shop 2950 Adilas Time 8/21/2017   On a GoToMeeting session with Steve. Bryan popped in for a bit and needed to know how the shop (ecommerce) folders worked with the black box stuff. We went over that and helped him out. I was working on the forgot password page and section. I ended up creating a number of new internal API socket pieces and then did some testing. It was working pretty well minus a couple small details. I pushed it up to all servers and will have to jump in and check out a little deeper when I get more time. It was really close. The biggest problem was the encode and decode options. They were slightly off. I'll fix that and we'll go from there.

On a side note, Steve and I were talking about a number of different topics as we were working on our own projects. That is kinda fun. We get to hear little bits of this and that while we work. Kinda fun.

Shop 2915 Adilas Time 8/22/2017   On the morning GoToMeeting session with Steve. We were both just working on our own projects. I got the forgot password section and page all done and up and online. Lots of testing and cascading around some new help files. That section has been broken since we went to multiple servers back in 2014. We've been pretty busy and that has not been the priority... I'm glad to get it done and working again.

Spent some time reviewing the sales tax expansion project. It has been awhile since we've been in there. As I was doing that, Steve was showing me some new pricing models for selling adilas. We started talking about how the number of daily transactions (invoice sales per day), users, data/file storage, and possibly locations play into the mix. Steve is working on getting some of the new pieces up and ready to present to the general public.

Shop 2948 SWC 8/22/2017   On a GoToMeeting session with Bryan. We were looking into some custom black box code in the ecommerce land. We changed some logic from looking in the session scope to a full database ping to get the latest data. After that, we then looked into ways of bringing in custom RFID tags as part of the add to cart process. This will end up being a custom black box from inside the add to cart page. We started looking into that and it got pretty deep. We will need to reschedule to give it the correct amount of time.

Shop 2880 Russell Moore 8/22/2017   On a Zoom session with Russell. We did a big code sign-off session on the parent attributes and being able to show them and search by them in ecommerce. Lots of custom code and over 100+ pages to look over and do code review on. The original session was only going to be until 3:30 pm, but we needed some more time.

Also, on a different note, I got a call from Nick Vaughn while Russell and I were uploading files. Nick got hired by Bridgerland ATC to help with the ecommerce department and specializing in the backend development. That is awesome and we, at adilas, may end up using that connection in different ways. Good stuff.

Still working through the differences between in-line discounts and standalone discounts. Lots of testing on the advanced add to cart page. I think it is getting pretty close.

Shop 2930 meet with Danny on Bulk Print action edits 8/23/2017   Danny and I got on a GoToMeeting session and looked over the code to help with the bulk print labels. The problem was a disconnect between the session line quantity (what was really in the cart) vs. the optional form scope override (smoke and mirrors) for what they wanted printed. This might sound random... but this is actually a mini conversion problem and hopefully will be fixed by allowing mini conversions. Basically, the salespersons are showing a number like 3.7 grams in the cart (real value). However, they want to show the label as a quantity of 1 or 1 each vs. 3.7 grams. It is all smoke and mirrors and perceptions. Kinda crazy and fun.

Anyways, we made the changes and pushed the file to all servers.

Shop 2951 Adilas Time 8/23/2017   Back on the sales tax expansion project. Started working line by line through the main add to cart page. This is the page that gets hit from tons of different angles including, but not limited to, simple searches, advanced searches, page view - per item, advanced add to cart, add special line items, my cart favorite buttons, barcodes, QR codes, sub inventory, convert parent to child, mini conversions, recipe/builds, cart quick searches - mixed sources, start cart, redirects from itself - add to cart, update cart, profit calculator, restore to cart, duplicate to cart, review cart (custom adds after the fact), transfers, internal stock/unit tickets, wholesale carts, black box, and other custom options. Basically, this page is a huge hub and has to be super flexible to be used in all of these different ways.

As a fun side note, Steve called and we talked about training and education. Steve and Shari O. just got done with a meeting with a lady who has a masters degree in education and loves to teach. Steve and Shari O. are going to try to help her get started into the teaching and training world of the adilas system and/or the adilas platform. All parties are really excited. Steve called and just wanted to talk and chat about some of the ideas and options. Fun stuff.

Shop 2917 Adilas Time 8/24/2017   On the morning GoToMeeting session. Steve and I were working on different projects. I was on the sales tax expansion project. I started into the meat of the add to cart page. That page has the methods and functions to add the new line items to the shopping cart. Tons of work on verbage, new arguments, new validation, and new underlying fields to hold the new data in. Pretty deep into the building process. This is where everything has to come together.

At the end of the session. Steve was showing me element of time # 1310 in the main adilas site. He is working on the first round of pricing in a visual display. We went over some ideas and chatted about some of the options.

Shop 2918 Adilas Time 8/28/2017   On the morning GoToMeeting with Steve. Small clean-up and paying some bills and such. Started working more on the sales tax expansion project. Lots of work with the add line item to cart methods and underlying code. Spent time alphabetizing and going through each piece line by line. Then at the end of the session, Steve and started working on merging in all of Steve custom code (tons of files) into the main master branch. That little project got us off our main goal but needs to be done. We need to get all of those custom files that Steve has made into the master branch. We are looking at over 500+ new files coming into master that Steve has made, worked on, and done. That is awesome.

Shop 3015 Change the format of the database updates 8/28/2017   Steve had the idea to flip the sort order for the database updates. Currently the newest updates are on the bottom... Steve would like us to flip that so the newest updates are on the top.

As a side note, this would help developers who were trying to keep up with new changes but might cause a problem for developers trying to do a new build (from the ground up). If they go in order, each thing will update progressively, if they go in reverse order, there may be problems. This second part of the note was added on 10/9/17.

Shop 2919 Adilas Time 8/29/2017   On the morning GoToMeeting session with Steve. We chatted, paid some bills, and then rolled into a work session. I was working on the sales tax expansion project and documenting all of the outbound values for adding new cart line items. Steve was making phone calls, doing tech support, and light coding on some state API sockets. Good work session.

As a fun little side note, part way through, I was getting overwhelmed with how much needed to be done and how deep we had chosen to go... Steve reminded me that we make and take broad strokes first, and then we circle back around and fill in the smaller strokes and details. That helped me get going again. Sometimes we know what needs to be done on a big or broad level but we don't know exactly how everything will fall or come together. Start with the big things and then the path will be more clear. Good stuff.

At the end of the day, Steve showed me some progress on his new pricing page and what not. We are making some progress.

Shop 2920 Adilas Time 8/30/2017   On the morning GoToMeeting session. Steve was on early and then had to leave. Shawn came over and while he was getting setup, he had me watch a YouTube video on a guy by the name of Bob Ross. He was an impressionistic painter back in the day. He started out filling in the background and creating some depth. Very broad strokes and then worked more into the foreground and added greater detail. Very fun to watch and see how his painting came to life.

I need to do similar things with adilas. Paint the background and sort of set the stage. Then as it comes forward, add more details and give it life. Sometimes I get too lost in the details and spin my wheels on things that might be better as an impression vs. the full details. Anyways, it will be a lot of mixing and blending and such. It was good to see his painting come to life using his technique of broad strokes leading into finer movements and detail as you get closer to the subject. We can apply that same principle to a number of our projects. Pretty cool.

Most of the morning was going over the addCartLineStruct method (adding a new line item to the shopping cart) and working through the new tax settings, new calculations, and new inbound and outbound values. Lots of moving pieces.

The new add form allows them to opt in/out on rewards. The values are saved with datestamps. All of this extra data was held in the flex grid. The trick was dealing with getting back the right flex grid tie-in piece and updating a value if it exists or not.

Shop 2883 Russell Moore 8/30/2017   On a Zoom session with Russell. We spent the entire session working on a project called the reflexive side of the flex grid. This has been a long time dream and on our wish list for years. Basically, the flex grid is a super flexible tool to interconnect all kinds of data together. Each flex grid tie-in has a main host (where it starts from) and then it could connect to any number of sub id's or sub connections. Almost like its own mini database tool. The old way, you had to add a piece of flex grid from one side and then do the same from the other side. Say you wanted to link a couple of customers together or show buddy invoices. The old way required you to add a piece of flex grid from both main pieces.

The new reflexive side of the flex grid helps the system do the additional linking. Basically, it makes the initial connection just like normal. It then searches, if a checkbox is clicked for add reflexive side, and does all of the other sub connections. So, that helps you criss-cross and combine items by only making one tie-in. The application figures out what other connections are needed and makes a record for the other pieces. Pretty cool.

Anyways, we worked on that project all afternoon. We got it done, tested, migrated, and uploaded to all servers. Russell and I still need to work on the help files and updates, but it is up and ready to roll. Like I said earlier, this is a small dream come true. The first round of the flex grid tie-ins was done back in June of 2009. This has been a wish list item since about that same time. I'm excited.
