Shop 985 Brandon out of the office all day 4/1/2016   Went up to Beaver Mountain. Ended up giving an hour long training session to the Cammeil and Debbie. They gave me a small list of requests. Most of them dealt with navigation and removing un-needed fields from the add/edit page on the flex grid. That seems to be a common request. Basically, people love the functionality, but it looks or feels complicated. They want it to be a more simple type interface.

Part way through the day, I spoke with Travis Seeholzer about adilas and what we can offer to Beaver Mountain. I had a great day on the hill and got in a lot of just fun freeriding. I ended up spending all afternoon riding with students that I had in my college classes. Good day.

Shop 847 Bryan Dayton 4/4/2016   Working on a flex grid wire job. We opened up a number of sample pages to get code and see how other project had been run. Trying to get him the code he needs for his project.

The last half of the session was spent brainstorming on the world building project (splitting up the databases) up at the board. We ended up going until 2 pm with small phone calls and such in between. On the phone with Calvin for 15 minutes and then on the phone with Steve for an hour going over the state of the project and what is required. We decided to stick with the older model for now until we can get some funding to advanced to the newer level.

We looked at a couple of pages as samples and possible code to use. Nick is working on the adilas marketplace or adilas world section. Super cool stuff, but he is having to rewrite a number of different things to help it all get wired up.

Shop 1105 Icons 4/4/2016   Final stuff on the data 5 server. We had to do some research on the API folder and how to get it to work. ColdFusion made a change to their program and took over that folder name for their restful API calls. We ended up commenting out some code on the web.xml file in the WEB-INF folder that dealt with the api folder path.

We prepped the server tie-in pages and pushed new files to all servers. We updated some help files and cascaded those around to all servers. We also called a client to schedule the migration of the data from data 2 to data 5.

Shop 1099 Chris Johnnie - School Demo 4/7/2016   Meet at 9:30 am at Thomas Edison North with 6ish staff members from 2 campuses to demo Adilas.

Notes: Met up with Chris Johnnie and Dave Forbis and went over to the school. We were on a Skype session with the other campus. I did the demo and Chris and Dave helped with the questions, ideas, and feedback. Good demo. We covered some student stuff, media/content, photos/scans, inventory, barcoding desks and chairs, expense tracking, and other budgeting requirements.

We have everything other than some of the budgeting features (may need watchers and feeders - inside of elements of time). Other than that, we were able to bounce in and show tons of potential. We also talked quite a bit about custom reports, ecommerce pieces (for parents and students), and custom interfaces.

We have met with this school three or four times (in the last 6-8 months). I think that they are finally getting it and the timing seems right. The principle is looking to retire in the next year and a half. He wants to get things setup correctly for the new incoming principle. Great meeting.

We did some prep work and got things ready for the migration. We then migrated 100 tables worth of data from the data 2 server to the data 5 server. This was just over 1.5 million database records.

We tag teamed on the process and were going pretty fast. Good session and we got a number of new notes and such. Tired, but good.

Shop 711 Calvin Chipman 4/12/2016   On the phone with Calvin for a bit. We talked about the data migration process and what we could do to help automate the process and take things to the next level. I throw out the idea of a checkbox for options of drop & create while exporting data, as well as a small repeatable filter option that would allow a filter option for the corp id(s).

Calvin would like to see our notes and process and then maybe help us jump even further down the road.

Shop 883 Sub Inventory 4/13/2016   Working with Steve on exporting current sub inventory levels. this is on the advanced parts search page. We also talked a lot about outside parties, investors, and lines that have been drawn in the sand. Trying to figure out what way to go and how to push things going forward. We keep going back to the railroad analogy. Basically, adilas wants to be the train and the train tracks. All of the other pieces are up for grabs.

Business are either - fixing it, selling it, or closing it - that's what businesses do. So, in short, we fix it, sell it, or close it.

We need to stick to our model, even if it is a slow mover. It has great potential.

Shop 1219 Companion Software Package 4/13/2016   What if we switched our focus just a little bit and said that adilas is a great companion software package to any business. We'd love to say we are the best standalone piece, but technically, we are a great companion piece. Here is the cool thing, we are that right now. We don't have to build anything new or even tweak or change anything.

Idea came from Russell Moore.

Shop 3318 Virtual Post-It Note 4/13/2016   -Compare software package
-Create something that fits with something else without rebuilding it.
-Build on to it
-Flexible to push and pull data
-Bridge or connection
-Instead of competing head to toe . . . we just help and enhance features and tools
-Think application flex grid level - interconnect what ever you need to - natively
-Working together vs. compeeting - abundant model - add to what is already there

We also talked about new settings for other pieces that were cool - but I forgot what they were. I'll try to record them when I hear them again.

Shop 1204 Hypur - Team Meeting 4/13/2016   Team meeting for the Hypur project. We will go over the projects and make the assignments. Looking for the following attendees: Dave Forbis, Brandon Moore, Shawn Curtis, Bryan Dayton, Alan Williams, Nick Vaughn, and Will Hudson.

Notes: Dave ran the meeting. He had a bunch of topics on the whiteboard (wall). He had a small agenda, the projects were listed out, a few small details per project, a light time budget, and assignments. Dave did an awesome job. I loved it.

Shawn did quite a bit of talking and did great in the role of lead developer. All of the guys seemed to be excited and the meeting went very well.

I did some light training on team building and helped wrap things up and make connections. My favorite part of the meeting was watching both Dave and Shawn run with things. They did great. I'm really excited to see how this project turns out. This is a step into a bigger playing field. Good stuff.

Shop 1226 Working with Shawn on the Hypur Project 4/15/2016   Shawn came over to my house to work on the Hypur project. We worked upstairs in the front room (better natural light). We used a small whiteboard and pen and paper to take notes and do some planning. See photo gallery for some of the notes.

Page 1 - We worked on a small flow chart of when and how the Hypur API socket connection would work and how they play into existing flow and processes.

Page 2 - We talked a lot about options for locking down full invoices. We thought that it would be cool to add a couple new columns such as is_locked (1 or a 0) and locked_reason (why it is locked - Hypur, 3rd Party, Audit, Admin lock, ice-down date, etc.)

- Shawn also had the idea to put an extra where clause on the updates that only allowed updates on non locked items. That would create a great fall back on the root or update level.

- The other main topic was flagging and tagging data. The more we look at things, the more we are seeing more needs to be able to flag and tag items within the system. We need easy ways to flag things and then easy ways to search and pull reports based off of the flags.

Page 3 - This page of notes dealt more with a task queue of sorts. We need a queue for the Hypur project but we could also use a queue for other internal adilas projects such as watchers, feeders, auto summing, stats, and gathering and collecting other information. We thought that it could be really cool if we had a web interface (load and unload the queue) and then have a full on software backend that could run longer or more processing intense pieces. Kind of a hybrid of sorts. See scan for some database ideas for the queue table.

- Quote from Shawn - "Please help us as we are working to help other people have work to do." - a line from Shawn's lunch prayer. I liked it.

- Part of the page has some notes about ways to organize and break things into smaller pieces. Think of Legos and building blocks. For example: basic pages (shells), black box access points for custom code, themes, skins, smaller component parts, world building levels, permissions (different levels), settings (different levels), cfc database and logic libraries, special page functions and player functions, watchers and feeders, documentation (help files or videos), histories and logs, real in-line database extensions, flags, tags, and subs. Also different data views and report types (calendar, time slot, horizontal, grouped, details, advanced - build & save your own reports), options for saving and exporting any data from any page.

Page 4 - More looking into special flags and tags. Added some notes about special cases such as returns, vendor credits, customer credits, back orders, and general PO ordering processes.

- We also talked about the task queue and being able to drill-down and see what is going on and what is queued up. We talked about a one-to-many between the queue and the action logs. We listed out a few of the possible queue action statuses - See scan for more info.

Page 5 - Shawn and I took some time to talk about our process and how we want to treat and track our projects. Lots of funnels and sub funnels. There is a lot going on and lots of things to make sure and check. See the attached scan for a small visual of the brainstorming session.

We also talked about current projects and what they bring to the table. We spent some time talking about the Hypur project - phase 2 stuff. We spent over an hour looking for a possible problem with inventory tracking. It ended up being a PO that had a received date set into the future. We really could have used a known issues report. Anyways, a good session.

Shop 1255 Meeting with Shawn on the Hypur project 4/19/2016   Working with Shawn on the Hypur project. We were going over the need to help out with returns, refunds, and other branching (chicken foot) type concepts. It is crazy how quickly some of the different things branch and have multiple different routes. We ended up talking about funds, pain, and stress levels. I was struggling and having a problem. I think I'm kinda getting burned out. I'm ok, but definitely tired. Every piece of the puzzle just keeps getting deeper and deeper. It takes a lot of energy to keep everything going.

I really enjoyed seeing a new model that Russell was working on. It has a easy entry, easy exit type feel, but it still has structure and bounds. Pretty cool idea.

Shop 893 adilas 4/21/2016   On a phone call with Steve. The whole thing was dealing with funds, direction, where things are working, where things are breaking, and where things are potentially fracturing but still working.

A lot of our time was spent talking about people and expectations. We talked about the independent model, employee models, hybrid models, etc. We are trying to figure out the balance between what we need and want and what we have. Good conversations.

We talked a ton about how some of the custom projects help us fund the future growth of the company. At the same time, they pull us off of the main core projects and prevent maintenance and normal processing. Not enough resources to go around. Everybody gets spread thin. There are pros and cons on both sides of that fence. We'll keep going and see how it works out. We are kinda experimenting right now.

We've got a ton of things lightly in place, we just need to let things mature and stabilize (normalizing process). Basically, just keep going and make small correcting strokes as we go. That felt good to feel like we are at least going on the right path.

Here are some other small notes that I took from the conversation:

- Let the system be the bad guy.

- Let it (the system) say yes or no based on rules and expectations. We have done this before and it was a huge area that helped us out (way back to original projects and timelines). This takes defining the playing field, setting rules, figuring out who and what, and then enforcing those rules.

See this PDF for some of the original start-up notes. https://data0.adilas.biz/adilas_history_bio.pdf

Shop 1273 Consulting Meeting With Pepperidge Farm 4/22/2016   Had a consulting and brainstorming meeting with Pepperidge Farm. My dad setup the meeting. He was there and so was a lady by the name of Melissa Vanover from Pepperidge. Melissa is the training coordinator for the new J. Victor Mahoney Training Center located at the Richmond, UT, Pepperidge Farm location.

We spent the entire session doing brainstorming and whiteboarding. The subject was a LMS (learning management system) type flow and process. As we would fill up the board with notes, drawings, and concepts my dad would take pictures for the record. We had a great session and covered a number of topics.

I really enjoyed helping to facilitate the session and got to help provide some direction. We went for hours and all parties were engaged. That was fun. We even got Melissa up at the board to help with the brainstorming session. Good stuff.

Shop 1279 The big three 4/22/2016   I saw some notes on the whiteboard from a meeting between Chris Johnnie and Dave Forbis. Just wanted to record this.

The Big Three
- World Building
- Data Storytelling or Digital Storytelling
- Assembly Line For Data

The process was listed as:
1. Start and build on common ground
>> 1.1. Business companion software package for any business
>> 1.2. See what they like and what they need

2. Talk about needs and pain areas
>> 2.1. Most people love to tell you the good, the bad, and ugly.

3. Fill the gaps and ease the pain with the existing tools and features.
>> 3.1. Think about the tools as companion tools for whatever already exists. Keep playing on common ground and possibly introduce new options.

4. Work towards the big three
>> 4.1. World Building
>> 4.2. Digital Storytelling
>> 4.3. Assembly Line For Data

Long story made short, we are headed toward the big three. However, sometimes the market and/or world may not be ready for that as an in your face marketing tool. The goal here was to start off really basic and then build on common beliefs and core principles. Then when ready start introducing more advanced topics such as world building, digital storytelling, or data assembly line concepts. Great ideas and flow.

Shop 1275 Meeting with Cory Warden about a soil testing company 4/22/2016   Had a GoToMeeting session with Cory Warden, adilas rep and consultant from Pagosa Springs, CO. Dave Forbis and I were on the call with Cory. The subject was a company that is trying to use adilas to track different soil testing outcomes and results. We did some light brainstorming and built a small outline from our conversation. See attached for the document. Lots of sub locations and sub phases. We will most likely be leaning towards elements of time and sub functions of time to get the tracking in place.

We talked about generic calcs, per line item calcs, and what we called special or back calcs (with tax included, discounts, backing into a set total, etc.). Good session and it seemed like Nick was really able to catch on and understand what was going on.

Shop 1292 Signing off on Hypur projects 4/29/2016   Full day of Hypur code sign-off. I met with Bryan for about 4.5 hours. We were working on the new Hypur payment solution project. Lots of new flow to handle a 3rd party payment solution. We got mostly done with Bryan's code. We had a page or two left to check.

I then met with Alan for about 3 hours. We were working on the task queue project for Hypur. We got all of Alan's code checked off and merged into the master branch. We still have to integrate with the API socket calls, but the main task queue has been created and pushed live.

I then met with Shawn for a couple of hours. We were talking about lessons learned and progress being made. We also talked about some hybrid shop options and how to best motivate the different developers and their different styles. Kinda some general HR (human resources) stuff.
