All of the guys were on with Steve. I was out of pocket. On my morning exercise, I ran into some Cougar (mountain lion) hunters. They had a cougar treed and so I went with them to see what they were doing. Pretty cool. I ended up being about an hour and half late for work, but it was awesome to see and learn some stuff. A couple pictures are attached. I was not the hunter, but part of the group.

Small analogy, a geode (small plain looking rock with crystals inside). Sometimes I feel like adilas is like a geode, the outside doesn't look that exciting, but the inside has all kinds of fun treasures to explore. Kinda fun.

Shop 7245 Brandon and Cory deep dive on #1901 finish 1/4/2021

Deep dive with Cory to go over a report project. The project has changes to the advanced invoice line items pages and also a thing we call the super advanced (more filters and search options) invoice line items pages. Some of these pages have exports to Microsoft Excel or CSV files.

We finished up some project management stuff and went back over the documents and did some proof reading and fine tuning.

Shop 7253 Adilas Time 1/6/2021

On the morning meeting with Steve and I this morning. We went over some code that Steve is working on to help migrate small amounts of new customer data to help with deployment and setup. We have done tons of these things, but always had Wayne or myself involved in the process. We gave Steve a number of files and he is cherry picking the pieces that he needs for his simple migration process. Fun stuff.

At some point, we need to go in and do some harvesting of our own code. We have so many resources that just sit there or are just on one developer or another's desk and nobody else gets to use those pieces. Pretty crazy.

Eventually we got talking about servers and how we could go in and help block a ton of unwanted traffic by tightening things up here and there. We got a list from Wayne of common pages that are being hit during the hack attempts that happen on the servers. We will start there and help to tighten things up a bit. Good meeting and making progress.

Shop 7289 Meeting with Chuck 1/6/2021

Chuck and I met and went over some different projects. We started out talking about RMA (return merchandise authorizations) and how we could turn that into an internal tool. We then switched to email templates and passing data over emails for clients. We also talked about the progress on the presentation gallery (see screenshots for more info). Chuck is mixing data, verbage, images, and such to help with the sales flyers and presentation gallery stuff.

Towards the end, we added a link to  help the adilas docs project go live. This project deals with internal stuff like naming conventions, sign-off procedures, best practices, code snippets, style guides, and other process type stuff for our internal developers. Chuck has been working on this project for months. It is now live and part of the main adilas system.

John and I worked on payroll stuff. We were mostly on the new W-2 forms and working on form fields and layouts.

Small side note, some times we talk about doing bug fixes... John was saying that sometimes bigger companies change the word bug fixes for things like - stability enhancements or efficiency tweaking. They are still fixing things, it just makes it sound more stable and able vs weak and problematic. Interesting concept.

Running database updates for Eric and John. Merging in more code that needed to be added after the database updates portion of the project. Testing and pushing up new files. Also got into some clean-up projects to help tighten some of the pages that are exposed to the public. We've been having some hackers push on every public facing page to look for weaknesses. We ,of course, don't want this, but they keep pushing and trying to find any vulnerabilities wherever they can. That ends up making us tighten things up and is good going forward but not very pleasant while it happens and/or doing the tightening up process. Anyways, made a few changes and pushed up new files. All we can do is keep chipping away at it and make it better today than it was yesterday.

Eric checked in and we went over some EMV chip reader stuff. Sean and Steve and I went over some of the RMA (return merchandise authorization) stuff for the gun/firearm dealers. We mapped out a few changes. We then had John check in as well.

Shop 7309 Steve, Cory, Brandon-Catch up on projects and updates 1/11/2021

Cory jumped on and we worked on some ideas on reporting and reports based off of the flex attributes (in-line database extensions). We have them implemented for customers, but need to get deeper into being able to search, pull up reports, export, and being able to filter data and recordsets based off of the new flex attribute values.

We also talked about other projects such as aging payables and adding new layouts to mimic what we do for aged receivables. We got into custom wholesale taxes and being able to switch between normal taxes and certain excise taxes. It gets really complicated. We talked about switches, phases, and more complex tax settings.

The last project that we went over was dealing with bulk tools for ecommerce. Show/hide on the web, long web descriptions, specs, reviews, etc. Currently, most of the web or ecommerce settings, you have to do them one item at a time. We are getting more requests to be able to manage things in bulk on the ecommerce side.

Bryan and I were exploring ideas and concepts for doing searches on the flex attributes and flex attribute data. We looked at a number of options. Eventually, we did a small scratch file to show some older but proven ways of doing the dynamic searches. Bryan was coding and I was directing him on what to do. This is one of many possible ways of doing it. Just trying to advance the ball.

We built out a query of a query model with lists, arrays, structures, and custom complex data sets. Playing with possible options. I know how to do it the old way, but we may need to keep looking for faster ways of doing it. Research practice session.

Started out with Steve checking in and talking about labels and label building. Talking about the new Flash conversion stuff, JavaScript Canvas libraries, PDF's, and even Calvin's adilas label builder project. We then got asked by Cory about complex data labels and how those worked. We did some drawing and explaining. Without getting too deep, we are seeing limits on normal barcodes and are wanting to get into more custom labels and QR codes. As a side note, I'm supposed to reach out to Calvin to see if we could get a number of the existing adilas label builder apps, so that we could distribute them vs having our clients go through him to get the app. I haven't done it yet, but it's on my plate. We have to use what we have right now. More will come as we keep going, but we have to harness our current assets in order to make it to the next steps or phases.

Shop 7249 SEO update with Marisa, Danny, John, and Steve 1/14/2021

This meeting was setup by Danny and Marisa. It was scheduled earlier in the week, but we had some crazy Flash conversion stuff hitting us at that time. Here are my meeting notes. Also, see attached for a number of screen shots from Marisa's presentation.

SEO meeting

- Danny, Marisa, Steve, Chuck, John, Brandon, and Cory were on the meeting

- They were talking about different phases, tools, progress

- We are looking to make our site more organic, actionable, and able to help with solving pain points

- Some pain points for others are: Missing the all in one (system thinking and system options), missing functionality, legal compliance stuff (oversight)

- We want to generate more good web traffic

- Taking courses and trying to stay up to date - Danny, Marisa, Chuck, and John are all taking some new courses to keep learning what they need to know and do. That is awesome!

- Gearing the design to help share and show what we have

- More internal linking

- Resources and support - Marisa really feels like this is a big need and wants to focus here - helping out our clients with what they need.

- Mobile friendly - 1st criteria - everything needs to be mobile ready

- One SEO, the score changes and gets degraded based on errors and missing pieces

- Changing targets - we know that we are chasing a moving and changing target

- We know who we are... be our own style - this is our plan

- Pirate ships, pirates, and boot strapping

- Pros and cons of technology choices

- From steve - keep things as small as possible, service our customers, and optimized our revenue

Shop 7311 Brandon and Cory work on Data 0 Server Health 1/14/2021

Cory and I were going to have a meeting about things that we could tighten up on the data 0 box. Before we got into that, we talked about some of the Flash conversion stuff and possible options there...

We could switch to PDF's, programmatically alter the PDF's, do custom black box code and use the check write system as a PDF form. We could do the same things for the labels if we absolutely have to. It has been kinda a pain to deal with the Flash conversion stuff. We still have some options.

Getting back to the server health. We went through the top 10 pages that were being abused (by a hacker) and briefly talked about each page or sets of pages. We covered a number of topics. We talked about server health, usage on data 0, getting John in there working with Wayne, custom error messages, more robust passwords, other plans, and possible work arounds. Fairly deep topic, that ranged all over the place.

As one of our ideas, we talked about splitting off certain pieces of the data 0 server to their own places and/or virtual playgrounds. Instead of getting all of the traffic to one spot, we could spread things out and almost create virtual practice dummy type modules on other serves. We have already moved off the news and updates to another server. We could do the same things with the developer's notebook, some of the free dev tools, calculators, barcode generators, and even the main adilas web page. If someone breaks or hacks that server, it is a virtual dead end, it doesn't really connect to anything else.

Anyways, a number of different possible strategies to make things more solid and prepare for the future. Good stuff.

Multiple people on the meeting. Mostly touching base on different projects. We are still having some issues with the Flash conversion stuff. John and I merged in a custom timeout message. Steve and I looked over some database updates for the mini units. Eric, Cory, and I talked about some crazy wholesale taxing stuff. Basically, we have customers that need to do wholesale deals, but still charge one specific excise tax. Currently, the code says, if wholesale, don't tax anything. However, we kinda need this go between that allows for the normal wholesale stuff but still able to charge a certain excise tax. Sometimes those things get pretty crazy. To make it worst, more complex, they also need to skip certain compliance and state tracking things for these transactions. Crazy complex stuff. Thank you California... and other states, for keeping us on our toes.

Shop 7336 Steve, Cory, Brandon-Catch up on projects and updates 1/18/2021

Cory, Steve, and I were talking about different projects. We decided to scrap one of them and wait for some other changes to roll into place. I was pitching an MVP (minimal viable product) on some payroll stuff. We chatted about needs there and where it could go. We talked about bulk payroll, special time card aggregates for some of the math, multi-department based timecards, new fields and settings for special programs, and other fields and values that are needed.

As a fun side note, we even talked about mixing payroll functions with special accounts (accrued hours and virtual time based loyalty points for employees and special laws dealing with additional funding and special programs). Special accounts are for things like loyalty point for customers, gift cards, in-store credit, vendor credits, etc. In this situation, we would be using special accounts to accrue or add up additional hours that are earned over time. Then, the employee/users could redeem those extra hours or bonuses, when they wanted. We would have to keep track of values being added to their account, as well as values being paid out or virtually redeemed. This gets into liabilities, and who owes who and the timing that goes along with that. Interesting twist.

Shop 7341 Follow up-troubleshoot html projects 1/18/2021

Started talking about internal vs external resources and who we want to work on what... As part of that conversion, we talked about how in accounting there was a huge gap between operations and accounting. There was problems with batches and getting to the source of the problem. We also talked about how accounting had to report to the government where the operations weren't nearly as tied to the government involvement. We drew a similar parallel to the gap between developers and customer support. Developers often are out doing their own thing, where as the customer support has to basically account for those actions and deal with the customers or clients (similar to the government in the account gap model). Anyways, a fun little spin on that the old gap analogy.

We went through some of the issues between the new HTML (JavaScript based code) and the older Flash widgets. That is still taking up some of our time. We are going to look into things on an internal level, where possible. Cory had a bunch of screenshots and I took some notes. I added my notes to the element of time # 1591 inside of adilas community funded projects.

Shop 7261 Adilas Time 1/19/2021

When I joined the meeting, they were already talking about different customers and how they use the system. A guy by the name of Jason, from Global Design Assembly had told Steve that he uses the adilas system because the system helps him make money. We want to help more clients like that. We love working with clients who get what we do and where we are headed. It really is a viable solution for solution minded people and companies.

The topic changed over to plans for our new website. We talked about allowing for different personalities and virtual skins (themes) or how the information is presented. I showed the guys some shots from the Learn To Freeride (LTF) project. It is an interactive product to help teach snowboard freestyle tricks and moves. We offer 3 skins in the interactive product. We had a classic skin, a retro skin, and a punk skin. Fun blast from the past.

On the adilas side, we may end up asking the users what they do and then change the skins based on that. Some like it more loose and funny, while others are all business and no laughing. Fun, but we have to play to the audience at hand. Sometimes that can be tricky.

See attached for a small video from a client going over their own custom dashboard. It doesn't look that pretty, but it is very functional for this company. We'd love to take that same power and put a fun and user friendly face on it (graphical display and user interface pieces).

Shop 7347 Pen Testing Review 1/19/2021

Meeting between John, Wayne, Steve, and Brandon. Going over servers and security issues and solutions. John took a bunch of good notes. Brandon and John have copies of the notes on their local computers. We talked about Fireeye and incident responses, Solar Winds, "pen tests" - penetration and vulnerability testing, server challenges, code challenges, and simple steps that we can take to keep refining the process.

Long story made short, hacking and hack attempts will not go away. We have to deal with them and make plans to prevent and handle that type of traffic. We talked about a number of other topics related to those same subjects. Here is a small list of other topics that were discussed: doing the best we can, supersizing some of the servers (assets and resources), poor passwords and upping those requirements, SQL injections, watching traffic patterns and trends, watching for abuse, tightening things up as we go, using the cf query param, firewall rules, safer code, and going to the next level.

We even got way out there and were talking about bot armies and having those bot armies pointed at certain targets and other crazy things that people do. Wild times.

Dealing with password security, length is one of the best pieces of security. We got into rainbow tables and reverse decoding of common passwords, etc. Wayne recommended that one of the safest passwords is a series of non connected words. He recommended that you go on a small drive and choose 3 to 4 words that you saw on your drive. Then use that as your password. It means something to you, you'll remember it, and it means nothing to someone trying to hack their way in. Anyways, nice meeting.

Random side note, Wayne, when asked how he is doing usually responds - something like - super fantastic. When asked about that, he said that years back he heard this talk on a positive attitude. As part of that talk, he got the idea to help control his own attitude which in turns helps others. Basically, why not just be happy and then pass it on. It's deeper than that, but I liked what he was saying. Good piece of advice. Why not just be happy!

I showed him a copy of the LTF project and how that all worked. He then showed me some template mock-ups for the new website. It is still quite a ways out, but making progress. We talked about fonts, choices, templates, and style guides.

Work session with Bryan. We are working on adding in flex attributes to the advanced customer search. Bryan is prepping files and then we are going through things line by line to do some detail work. It gets pretty involved. Making good progress. Today we were outputting all of the flex attribute values per customer record. Next time, we'll get into pre-filtering the main records based off of entered search criteria from the flex attributes.

Shop 7338 Suzi and team, John Brandon Steve and Cory 1/21/2021

- There was an original email dated back in July - Cultivation report for Ianthus

- Suzi and Philip from Ianthus were on the call - there were quite a few adilas folks on the call.

- Cultivation mapping - done by Dustin

- When a plat it changed from one phase to other phase, you auto populate those fields.

- They have some custom fields (sub inventory attributes) that they want auto filled when certain actions happen - changes of specific phases

- Maybe setting up which sub inventory attributes show up based on what phase. Also, does one or more of them have (sub attributes) a mapping from other data that is being entered up higher. It may take some more mapping. We may want to show/hide certain sub attributes based on the phases. That means we need to go through the process and really detail out what is shown and what is hidden. Along those same lines, they would love to set it up so that if a sub attribute is being shown, it can get a value or its data from one or more spots (other user entered form values).

- Currently, some of the info that they are wanting to catch (automatically) is dealing with dates and sub dates.

- As a side note, because we allow each corporation build their own sub attributes, we then have to be able to show/hide and map out these pieces as they go through the different phases. The eventually need all of this data, but we are showing so many fields, it makes it more difficult. We are catching all of the data right now, it just isn't organized (visual report or visual form) to make it easy.

- Another thing that they were talking about was getting to those sub attributes later on - other reports  and passing that data along to other places.

- Just an idea... what if we build a phase builder type app - these would be settings, user controlled, and allow you to setup a single phase, what data to gather (maybe a point and click interface to setup what will show up), then the ability to setup defaults, show/hide fields, what to default things to, other data mappings, etc.

- There were some talks about back filling the data - separate tasks going backwards. Along with that, if we back fill things (update the data), we also need to build it going forward so it becomes an automated process.

- Eventually, they were getting into the nitty gritty details of each phase. The start of one phase sets certain values, the end of a phase closes things down (other actions) and also starts the next phase. We need to detail out each phase. I'm just dreaming here, but virtually a way to setup pods or sections of a virtual data assembly line process.

- The first phase would be a backfill type report - able to do things in bulk. They were talking about being able to select a PO date range and then applying specific dates to all line items on the PO. There were also talks about a PO number range.

- Light talks about required sub attributes and optional sub attributes.

Cory and I going over projects to help the data 0 box. It has been hit hard with hack attempts. Crazy world!

We were going through each project and gathering information. Wayne gave us the top 10 most hit pages that are part of the adilas site. We will be going through each one to see what options we can come up with.

After we were done with the servers stuff, we did a small payroll overview of the 1099's and went over a few questions and what not.

Shop 7263 Adilas Time 1/26/2021

Back in the office after a couple days off and a day for a funeral. Busy times. There were 6 or so guys and gals on the morning meeting today. I helped merge in some code for Danny and some custom labels. John and I did a little bit of work on 1099's. Other small questions and touching base.

General observation - Lots of the guys and gals are very interested in helping out our clients and making them happy. That is great and awesome to see. It hasn't always been that way and back in the day, it felt like we didn't have enough people to go around and support those client wants and needs. Good stuff.

Shop 7354 Talking to Cory about projects 1/26/2021

Going over payroll aggregates and doing math prior vs on the fly calculations on internal adilas time cards. We went over a number of projects and did some quotes and talked about pros, cons, and stepping stones.

Towards the end, we had some guys ask some questions about some custom labels. We showed them what to do and they were totally surprised, as they didn't even know that we could do those things. The take away from that is, that certain knowledge tends to get lost, especially some of the older functionality. Kinda interesting.

Shop 7293 Meet with Alan 1/27/2021

Alan and I met up for an hour and went over a bunch of different projects. Alan reported on his corp object manager project (session based objects for corporations and corp-wide settings), logic and flow for Eric's EMV chip reader project, timeouts, error handling, and connections. We then got into the enterprise or aggregate vendor project with multiple corporation mappings and enterprise type relationships.

After that, we touched base on RFID tags and how they play into ecommerce based on settings and and usage. We also got into discussions about transition invoices, restore to cart, and how those things play with sub inventory out in ecommerce land. Lots of deep sub inventory stuff. We closed our meeting by going over some testing and automated testing and how that is going on some of Alan's new projects. Lots and lots of moving pieces. Sometimes it is tough to keep the big picture in mind and make sure that logic and data flow from piece to piece. It gets pretty big, pretty fast.

Shop 7422 Allow for dynamic field settings for W-2's and 1099's 1/27/2021

We just finished up the 1099's and W-2's for tax year 2020. We were testing on three different computers and three different printers. Each one was slightly different. It would be so nice if we could make the 1099's and W-2's printer specific (settings per corp) and make it able to bump values around like adilas check write application. Be able to move fields for good layouts and data overlays. Save and record the _x and _y values in the database. Make the whole thing editable (to a certain level - dealing with the layout). That would be super cool.

Shop 7262 Adilas Time 1/28/2021

Recording notes, going over new serial numbers for the adilas label builder app from Calvin, and touching base on other projects. Steve and John were going over some custom reports and what they needed, as far as new logic and/or tweaks. The reports were dealing with cross overs between PO's, elements of time, and sub inventory - lots of mixing and blending. Anytime you get so many things involved, it can get kinda deep, kinda quickly. Basically, the users love how it is recording the data (catching all of the data points), they just want the reporting to be super easy and almost know what they want without asking the system for it. It's just the next logical step, but sometimes, they get really demanding and add some crazy pressure. We just keep going and taking that next step. That's all we can do. Keep on faking it till you make it!

Shop 7359 Project #1924 - Review and push new Snow Owl Data Tables 1/28/2021

Working with John on aged payables and the payables look back report. He is adding in some snow owl data tables and trying to come up with a new report type/format to help show the aged payables better. We have a similar report on the accounts receivables side, we are trying to do the same things on the payables side.

On the receivables side, it is mostly from unpaid invoices. However, on the expense or payables side, it could be bills on account (splits), reimbursements, outstanding PO's, payments on/for stock/units and inventory, or even floorplan or advanced sub accounts. It gets a little bit more complicated on the payables side of things.

Looking over code and doing a small code review.
